Trout fishing in the Snowys

Post by simon2g » Sun Sep 29, 2024 12:00 pm

There isn't a section dedicated to it and Im heading away to Suggan Buggan river to find a nice spot to setup camp and then walk the river to find some trout - hoping to see a few wild horses in the area.

I read on the vic fish website that Suggan Buggan River it states it has "occasional brown trout" to 900g which i was hoping it'd say abundant. Although even the Snowy River says Occasional.

Anyone fished here? Planning to hike from the Historic School House upstream

G'day Simon, I have fished up that way. There was some large fish kills from the 2019 Bushfires. The trout have come back now. The Snowy can be hard going in that area, including the Deddick river. It doesn't fish that well from my experience, hard to believe when you are there in awe of it's beauty. There are a heap of small streams worth a cast, and a heap of other spots you can set up. Good luck, enjoy the area.
