Sorrento Ocean Beach - Koonya Beach ?

Folks,

Friends and I shall be spending a few days at Sorrento this coming weekend and I would like to use the opportunity to try fishing the ocean side of the Peninsular.

Can anyone comment on the fish-ability of the ocean side of Sorrento...particularly near to Koonya Beach (closest to our accommodation) ? Looking at Google Maps it looks kind of do-able, but also looks like just too snaggy and would be a killer on tackle. I don't mind loosing a little, but am not keen on making it a challenge for myself.

Gracias

You'd be much better off going to Gunnamatta mate, unless you have heaps of spare tackle

Never fished there, it does look very snaggy. Could be good for the fish though.

Same with Seniorfisho, I'd go to Gunnamatta instead.

Can't hurt to wander down and scope it out... I'll give it 30 mins at sun-up or on the high tide, if I lose a set of tackle I'll chalk it up as a lesson....

My strike rate on the PBB side during the past month has been terrible ( only banjos, small pinkies, and a some passable salmon ) so was hoping to find something a bit more productive...

Yes, I would agree.... Gunnamata would usually be the better option.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

I am just trying to remember if I've been there and I reckon I have but it was over 20 years ago. I think it is pretty much just all reef that becomes exposed at low tide and very shallow at high tide. Let us know how you go. Rye back beach is more my area as my inlaws lived there and I spent 30 years every second weekend going down there. Rye back beach has a couple of nice little rocky outcrops that can be fished and the water is deeper but still very snaggy. Try at the bottom of Pearse road in Rye, just park the car and walk over the little hill and you will see the rocks and also some big rock pools which have some good fish in them
