7/8/2019 bait collecting

So with the lack of reports being put up lately I thought I would contribute by putting one up
Earlier on this week I was looking at the weather to see a lot of very cold wintery weather coming up towards the end of this week so yesterday took the opportunity to slot in a quick bait collecting session with my mate for the up coming snapper season.
We both met up at the ramp and after having a chat and a quick bite to eat, we were on the water by around 2 pm.
We zipped around to a spot we always do well with the squid but it was a slow start.
After about 20 minutes I finally got the first one on board after a few drifts
So the set up was I was jigging on one side of the boat and my mate on the other and left one out the back just drifting.
After about an hour I think we had 5. The score tally 5 to me and zip to my mate
We made a small move to another spot and managed to get a couple more and then on the way back stopped by another spot and got a few more there as well.
In total we ended up with 10. 8 to me and 2 to my mate. He kept saying it was my day and I think it was as he wasn’t having much luck losing a jig and some tangles with other rods in the boat as well.
I was using a size 3.5 Rui’s white jig and my mate a black one in size 3.0. The one out the back of the boat was a green one in size 3.0 and caught none.
It wasn’t the best session on the squid we have had by far, however we were happy to end up with 10 nice ones and have some fresh bait for possibly next weeks early season snapper session!
Cheers,
LX.
