Mornington Pier Squid

Post by Omer » Wed Dec 23, 2020 7:39 pm

Bit of a late report (I have heaps of life stuff in the way). Anyway, made the trip down to Mornington Pier last weekend on Saturday night. Fished between 7.30pm to 2am chasing some squid.

Ended up bagging out between 10:30 and 2 am. Slow start. Largest ones were bw 20-25cm hoods. Had a gentlemen there give me some tips which was super nice of him (I always appreciate people sharing some knowledge) and as I hadn't gone squid fishing in many years, it was nice to hear some intel.

Fish wise, the pinkies people caught (that I saw) were all undersized.

Was my first time on that particular pier though. Lovely place.

Had a feed with my parents the next day and kept the rest for bait to hopefully catch some whiting and pinkie/snapper this weekend, if I have the time to go. If theres one thing I've learnt over the years, it's having the right bait that's also fresh!

I'll try to add photos on future reports.

All the best.

It was good tbh, nice night. However, past midnight, another layer would keep you snug

Caught yourself a feed! I primarily fish nights but they honestly throw off your sleeping pattern. My plan is to try and focus mornings going forward...hopefully.

Good luck.
Natural colour usually works well in clear blue sky like today.
