North arm firing on the whiting

Post by Scraglor » Sun Dec 19, 2021 1:23 pm

Hi all,

Long time since I last posted, but I haven’t stopped fishing hahah.

Have gone out twice in the last week or two, launched out of Yaringa, and had a bit of a whiting bash. Got 40 between two people the first trip in approx 2.5 hours, and 33 this morning. Had to pack up after approx 1.5 hours as the storms rolled through, great conditions before that, but didn’t want to chance the lightning and gale warnings. Fish a cast this morning, struggled to keep rods in the water. Good quality fish, approx 50% 35-38cm and the rest over 40cm, up to 48cm.

Fished a bit deeper around 12mtrs, using a double dropper paternoster, 20lb fluoro, sz1 kl1/0 circles. Best bait was mussel, but squid worked too. I’m sure pippy would be fine but as they’re so expensive we stick to mussels (cut in half)

We don’t burley at all unless you can’t find a fish, as it tends to attract the rubbish fish which seem to shut the whiting down.

Now I have a lot of filleting to do this arvo.
