Fished Somers for Doughnuts
No fish pics, was an interesting day.
Headed to Mornington and picked up a couple of squid. Quick stop at SLH to buy a new kayak jacket, very pleased with it .
Had lunch at flinders pier, worked our way up to Merricks.
Heaps of weed about , shifted base to Point Leo.
More weed and stand up paddle boarders.
Ended up at Somers. Had a couple of taps , hooked something small but lost it in the resulting weed tangle.
Water was murky , squid was fresh, hope was high.
Results were poor, but good day of learning .
Home now and enjoying a beer.
Also broke out the thermals for the first time since summer, was pretty toasty.
Get my first gummy some day, just wasn’t meant to be ...
Back to my beer.

I’d never been to a lot of these places, was good to finally put a pin on the map in front of me.

Fishing is all about trying, we all try to catch fish. The beers make the day sweeter.

Were you at the yacht club? If you walk along there flicking plastics early in the morning you'll get flatties more often than not, if the water is clear. It's slowing down now with the cold weather but it was producing 1-2 almost every trip for me through the summer.smokin_reels wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 10:25 pmNo fish pics, was an interesting day.

The place is teeming with little toadies though, you'll feel them tapping your plastic on every cast.

Seems like a productive area, will just have to work out conditions . Get there eventually. Anyone with pointers on what sort of wind/tide combination to be fishing around that area , feel free to DM. Will trade you a metro yellow belly

Re: Fished Somers for Doughnuts
I only target flathead there, I can't help you with gummies etc. For flatties the ideal conditions are a falling tide at sunrise, with no wind or a light northerly. I don't fish there in a southerly wind. The calmer the better, the warmer the better. Weed in the water seems to scare them away too, you can check that on the yacht club's webcam - if there is weed on the beach there is weed in the water. You don't need to walk far either, I've had most success within 100m of the rock wall.
The beach at the base of Flinders pier is good for flathead too, I've caught a lot there without going on the pier itself.

Always love reading your reports Aaron.
I felt for you, really did, with the Gummy Doughnut (oups, just in-case a Krispy Kreme employee is reading this , , , , no , , , , don't even think about it , , , , that would be a bad idea , , , , and they would taste awful).
You can hold your head up high as a Gummy Fisherman, you fish for them and as you said "Results were poor, but good day of learning" so it is just a mater of time. Glad you have a positive outlook, "Get my first gummy some day".
Now, until that day comes, here's something to get you by (apart from the beer)
Cheers, Bill
