Drought finally broken

Post by Scraglor » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:50 pm

So Looks like the fish are finally starting to fire up. Launched out of Hastings last night, and finally got onto a few fish, lots of flatties, gurnard, and rock cod, however we got onto a nice dinner sized gummy, and hooked up to something massive on a shimano alivio 10,000 and a 12kg stick, was only running 30lb line/leader, and it went for some big long lunging head shaking runs, and really couldnt stop it. Didnt feel at all like an eagle, so not sure what is was, but after 10 mins or so I ended up thumbing the spool and trying to brute force it to the boat (rookie error) and busted it off after 2-3 minutes.

All in all, after a few quiet trips, its nice too come home with a feed of flake and flatties, and a story of "the one that got away"

I will defintely be getting a game overhead and running a big bait under a float this season, never know what might swim past.

I am missing the days when I had a lot of opportunities for fishing.

I haven't caught a gummy yet but I'm planning to on the holidays, sounds like a ripper shark though. would have been nice to get it in for a few pics :-D

what's your take on the alivio? I've seen it in some Shimano mags and it looked reasonably priced.

nice report mate
