Port Melbourne on kayak this morning

Post by Sebb » Sat May 21, 2022 8:05 pm

Last minute decision. Saw the weather forecast, almost no wind. Went with a mate.
Fished 6:30am-10am. High tide 5:30am, 64% moon, clear sky.
Servo pilchard, chicken, squid head, various lures.
Two rods on bait, one with paternoster 4/0 KL hook and the other is running sinker with two 4/0 KL snelled. Another rod is 2-4kg rod for lures, mostly plastic on 1/8 jighead.

Few pinkies (25-30cm), mostly undersized snd released. A mate took 2x 30cm home.

.
Four flatties (35cm, 39cm, 40cm, one dropped right on the kayak). One of them gave bite marks on my thumb.

.
Then saw a school of fish on the sounder, tailor at around 40cm. Was like one cast one fish. Took two home for a mate who never tried it.

Thanks.
The plastic worked better yesterday. Usually both equally well there, but they liked plastics better yesterday for some reason.

I was trolling hardbodies for a while, few fish mid water, thought they were salmon, but no hit.
So either they're not salmon or they're there but not biting.
