Port melb yak

Post by Sebb » Wed Oct 21, 2020 1:16 pm

How great is the weather this morning.
It's good to be out again on the yak.

Time fished 5am-9am.
Almost no wind this morning.
Moon 28% full 9:39am rise.
High tide 7am.
Barometer 1015 and increased to 1017.

2-4 kg rod, 2500 reel, 10lb line, zman slim swimz, 1/8 jig head.
4-7 kg rod, 3000 reel, 20lb line, gulp shad 5in nuclear chicken, 1/8 jig head.
5-9 kg rod, 4000 reel, 30lb line, squid head bait, 5/0 circle hook.

Got on the water 5am, went straight out to 6-7m water. Just before 6am, the bait rod bent like crazy, bzzzttt, grabbed the rod, bzzzttt... And *twang* .... Dropped it. Would've been a good fish.
Then the gulp shad nuclear chicken, tap tap bang, 35cm flathead.
Moved around the blue area including princess pier pylons, nothing but tap tap none (no hookup).

Flock of seagulls came around 7am and baitfish everywhere, and salmon salmon salmon. They're only 25-30cm though.

Then around 7:30am my mate hooked a big one on a 4in paddle tail plastic, he pumped the rod and did couple winds, bzzzttt... *Twang* ... The snap clip thing got straightened.

Pinkies 20-25cm after that til 9am.

Didn't land the big red but was such a pleasant morning.
Keen to hear reports from others and at diff places.

Nice report and pics Seb!
Not a bad flattie.
To answer your question me and my friend were fishing during the day yesterday so we were in deep in 11 metres out from st kilda. We did manage a nice squid and a salmon earlier in shallow which we turned into fresh bait but only managed to catch a couple of pinkies.
The hunt continues 😃
Cheers 👍🏻

Was about half a dozen in port melb yesterday morning. I fished and left early though, there were more coming when I was leaving.
Quite a few around Wyndham rockwall.

I drove my boat around almost exactly where you paddled while i was out yesterday, just sightseeing. I did show a random good mark on the sounder though so i think there might be the odd fish about in that area.
