St Kilda Seal

Post by potatoeater » Wed May 13, 2020 10:20 pm

St Kilda Pier now seems to have a resident seal. I've seen it several times before and it was there tonight. Not sure if it scares fish away, but tonight I had zero bites at all so I'll try a different spot tomorrow.

When a seal turns up pack up and find another spot, the seal at St Leonards, and the one at Flinders, both a pain in the ass stealing hooked squid and in general... chasing all the fish away in the area.

Many many promising rock sessions have been ruined by the local aquapuppers.

There is a huge one down at Lorne. Steals every decent fish and scares the hell out of you when surfing.

Last time I went out off black rock we had one just hanging around the back of the boat. Kept taking hooked pinkies off us so I drove off and changed locations. The seal followed us all the way to the next location and did the exact same thing. Just swam around at the back of the boat :rf:

Caught a seal of Montague Island years ago, caused a deal of mirth as I thought it was a big fish initially.
Was well known around Narooma, when he came up, looked like a mouth full of spaghetti with all the busted lines hanging off.
Pretty funny at the time.

Damn seals! The are very cute, but so annoying!

I have a spot out near the wreck of the Launceston that is good for snapper. Its about 15km out from the Werribee River, about 22m deep. Sometimes i steam all the way out there anchor and burley up only to hear that familiar sound of a seal coming up for a breath. You are out in the middle of nowhere and a seal turns up.. unbelievable.
The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!
