I'm with Red, I too reckon Salmon are as good as any fish to eat AND it is all in the prep, as with anything really. Mate Don does a Salmon Mornay that is awesome.

But I think Seb has it covered, with his cooking, Seb could make old boots taste great

Haha thanks Mr Bug.
I can cook, but I'm not that good to be able to make edible shoes!

Well done seb good effort my only suggestion is invest in Nav lights and a 360 degree light if your fishing within an hour of the evening.

Thanks RB, and that's a good idea! I struggled and worried a bit fishing into the evening with only tiny head torch. Especially around the time when the boats are coming back to the ramp, the swell can be high and sudden.

I would worry about getting run over by the boats not being able to see you before worrying about the swell.

Make yourself visible at any cost. Thats the main thing.

True, scary to just thinking about it.
Here's one from Anaconda for $27.99 not bad.
Tape it to a pvc pipe or something, should do.

I don't mind them fresh, not much different to snapper. If bled straight away, filleted, skinned, and blood line removed, they cook up quite well I reckon. Many folks discard them as bait as they claim they are crap, but I put that perception down to a bad experience due to "poor preparation for the table". But, each to their own...

Just so you get an idea Seb and others who are fishing without lights on the water on calm evenings in late oct into nov on Westernport theres always lots of boats on the water between Corinella and Rhyll id imagine even more around Hastings and theres always tinny's in the mix with no lights at all and you can't see them sometimes until your within 50m away. A kayak is going to be harder to see.

If for some reason you mistakenly get stuck out after dark with no lights its a tragedy waiting to happen.

Thanks RB, noted in bold.
$27.90 light on a pole is a cheap trade off for safety.
I've never really fished well into the night, always paddling back when the sun's out (some light left).
But yes, in case of stuck later in the night a good light is a must.

Good news is I sold the two kayaks! And now planning for the next step.
