Happy Mackerel Day

Post by frankgoff » Tue Jan 18, 2022 11:20 pm

After charging up the battery, my old man and I went out properly break out the new tinny.

Launched out from Werribee South in the early afternoon. Didn't catch any of the target species of pinkies or squid but ended up with a happy surprise of large mackerel while catching bait with the sabiki jig. I had no idea the bay held big slimeys.

If you like targeting slimeys try any rocky outcrop of reef for 45 minutes just on first light. Use a slightly larger bait jig. There's always a ton of them around they are just extremely difficult to target during the day.

Just as good in the dark, as you'd know.

Nice catch mate!
I’ve caught some big ones as by catch as well in the past! Was surprised at the size of them.
Cheers 👍🏻
