Werribee river 12/12/2020
Werribee river was first stocked with EP 4-5 years ago I think.
I had been too lazy to explore there for some reason, though it's only 15 mins drive from home.
Finally did some landbased fishing last year and caught some EP and redfin, found it to be a good river to fish close to home.
Happyfriggincamper and I went there on Saturday on a kayak, though it was windy, the water was sheltered enough by the high banks and tall trees. There was still a bit of drift though.
Here's the summary.
Time : around 4:30pm-8:30pm
Moon : 2% before new moon
Wind : windy as
Barometer : around 1020
Weather : sunny blue sky
Rod : 2-4 kg
Reel and line : 2500 with 8lb braid and 8lb fluorocarbon leader about a rod length
Lure : a mix of soft plastic and hardbodies (suspending hardbodies such as ecogear sx40 was the standout lure). Both trolling and cast to structures worked.
Caught almost a dozen fish. Average of 25-30cm, being the biggest caught was 31.5cm.
No special technique, just cast, slow steady retrieve or twitch and pause.

Nice report! Had no idea so many fish were there, nice day wind can always be a pain so it's better to be in amongst the tall trees. Sounds like you had a great time Sebb

Thanks, definitely had a good session. There's fish from below Melton reservoir all the way down to the river mouth in Werribee south. Being bream predominantly downstream. Mulloway if you're lucky.wishtofish wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:12 amNice report! Plenty of friendly landbased access from Werribee down to the river mouth but limited landbased access upstream of Werribee.
Thanks to you, I would still be slacking to fish there if it wasn't for your reports last year.

Re: Werribee river 12/12/2020
Wasn't as on fire as sebb and only got 3. Big part of that was after sebb figuring out how they are being taken, trying to work through my tackle box until I found something similar to the sx40. Had a small random Berkeley flicker shad that was at least suspending and all catches came on that.
The bottom fish was the biggest at 31.5cm - I'm not 100% sure but think it's a bass (if anyone can confirm)?

The bottom one is a Bass, I have been using Berkeley BB walking stick and basicly anything that suspends, you can get them off the surface during the day also, after about 7pm I change to deeper divers like Daiwa Double clutch, great session you had therehappyfriggincamper wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 9:44 amWasn't as on fire as sebb and only got 3.
