Altona 5/10/2020

Post by Robbie1950 » Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:07 pm

Had a chance to take the boat out last night for a quick fish within the 2 hour permitted window from 5.30pm onwards. High tide was at approx 6.30pm and the water temp on the sounder was showing 14.5c just east of Altona reef in the shallows.

I set a spread of whole pillies and one snapper snatcher with half a pillie on each hook. I had an unusual bite and hooked onto a decent size sambo 45cm in size, not the target fish but will become bait for it on my next trip. I saw a couple of boats drift past on lasers and also pull in a few.

All in all I dont think I'll be going back out until this 2 hour rule is lifted as it's simply rush and pretty much at prime time I had to take off, quiet frustrating actually but still blessed to be out in the bay.

For those that are thinking of taking a chance to launch the boat and dont live within 5km from there ramp, don't do it. Cops were checking anyone launching on Sunday and I also saw the water rats docked at the ramp this morning waiting for anyone game enough to rough out the southerly.

Brett from Reedy's slayed some decent fish last night down the opposite side of the bay, one snapper coming in at 8kg. The fish are there its just a matter of finding them!

Didn't think you could take the boat out, even if you live within 5kms of the ramp

At last a snapper report!! (good effort considering the 2 hour rule limitations....fingers crossed they ditch the 2hr/5km rule on the 19th!)

Thanks for the warning Robbie!
My mate and I are dying to take the boat out and have thought about it but the 2 hour limit has been putting us off from going!
Must have felt good though just to be back on the water even if it was for a short time. I just can’t wait to have the freedom again!
Cheers 👍🏻

I thought they said at the press conference that you could not use any facilities.. such as boat ramps. But i guess i miss heard it.

I need them to change it to 15km before i can do anything about it.

From memory around this time of year you have some killer LB spots that you slay some quality snapper from? If I recall early season last year you caught more LB then we all did from a boat.

Haha yea don’t talk about it lol
Kind of depressing with this kind of weather as well I was talking to my mate saying we would have killed t by now. Bagged out multiple times big size ones. O well. Waiting for restrictions to be lifted to get into them from the boat now 😃
Cheers 👍🏻
