Making use of the nice weather, landbased Williamstown to City.

Post by Sebb » Sat May 01, 2021 1:08 pm

A mate with Sat morning only availability messaged me couple of days ago if I wanted to go out fishing. Ofc I said yes on such a nice day.

Met him 6am at Ferguson pier, fished there for 1.5 - 2 hrs, nothing. He stayed there and caught a 22cm aussie salmon. While I went to yarra river in city for about an hour and caught this nice bream. The tail fin got all ripped, what you reckon the cause of it? The fish definitely in good shape apart from that.

Weather: sunny, 12° morning to 21° at about 11am.
Sun: first light 6:34am, sunrise 7:01am
Wind: north 12kmh-18kmh
Moon: 75% full and 11:35am set
Barometer: 1025 increased to 1027 in the morning and dropped back to 1025 after 10am
Tide: 5am peak high
Gear: 3-6lb rod, 2000 spin reel, 6lb braid line, 6lb fluorocarbon leader 3m long. Zman grub 2in bloodworm on 1/28 #2 hidden weight jighead.

Bottom.

I slow rolled the plastic on the bottom and it picked it up off the bottom like bait fishing. No pickers til the lure got to the bottom.

Good on you Sebb! We headed out to Ferguson thaw night before and it was still very quiet. Has to be the prettiest urban spot to fish in melb, but the smell of sweage at the start of the pier is strong. I do wonder if that’s behind the algae there and large amount of weed.

Thanks.

Was it low tide when you were there? It does get like that over there during low tide, especially around new and full moon where the low tide is very low.

No worries mate. We fished the high tide in fact! Always a hit and miss area for me. Used to get huge mullet there but not in the last few years.

Ah I see. I go there for a walk coffee/breakfast every now and then, never really cath my attention of the smell other than when it's low.

Yesterday was the first time I fished there in years. Same here, I remember it was a good place to fish. But who knows, we could be fishing the wrong time etc. Just unlucky perhaps.
