The Poster Boy Trip.

Post by purple5ive » Mon Jun 27, 2022 8:19 pm

Ok here goes.
Been a while since I posted something here.

Lake tyers was on the list after it has had a good flush out multiple times. I took the opportunity to head down and give it a shot for the first time in my boat.
Well second time actually if you count a few hours about 5 years or so ago on the way back home from another bream trip.

Plan was simple find up some schooled up winter fish and try and get them to bite. Structure scan was used to good effect to find scattered schools, but they were not willing to chew.
Bumped into smoking_reels down there who was having a similar outcome.
Eventually we decided to fish the snags instead, was a good move stumbling across quite a few of these beauties.

Zmans, baitjunkies and berkley plastics on light jigheads and 4lb leader were tossed into the gnarly looking timber and we wait for the line to tick or start moving. If nothing happened then start retrieval back, if your lucky and you got it back then repeat the same process.

You know when you struck gold as there's a familiar tick in the line, these modern day high modulus graphite rods definitely make those ticks go unnoticed.. getting the take is one thing, getting the fish out of the structure is a different story, i keep it simple.. wind like a madman akin to someone who is just starting out fishing, drag is screaming but keep on winding till you get somewhere safe. not everyones cup of tea, but seems to work for me

The above pic is what fisheries wanted to use when they contacted me, but the aspect ratio on the photo wasn't suitable to be cropped to use on their newsletter, so I sent them the one you have seen already.

We kept going and pulled some bream out of some schooled up fish eventually.
This was the biggest, didn't measure it.

Some flathead were also enticed, all released as they were above the size limit of 55cm. Few trevally and salmon made up the rest of the captures for the trip.

It was absolutely freezing down there, but I love fishing in winter down Gippsland way, as you get some magical winter days like this.

Ill have to head down there again at some stage when I have some time. As I've barely expored the area, Its a great fishery. let's hope it stays that way for a while.
Cheers

Usual bream arsenal.
Commander bayonet division, desert bull and avenger with luvias 2004 reels. They only get used on these sorts of trips so if I'm undergunned then stiff ****.
