Re: Security guards and fishing
Ask to see the documentation and ask for a copy of it.
"A guy at the desk told me" is not nearly as strong an argument as "here is the law and what it says."
Plus it wouldn't suprise me at all if they just outright lie to you, see marine park at blairgowrie.

As above. If you're showing the footage, don't edit it down from what you've posted here -- a more concise bit of footage could be an excuse for someone to say, oh, this has been heavily edited (like one of those dash cam videos where you feel like come away feeling like you've missed the best part of the story). I also don't think it's a good idea to say you've contacted the police or etc if you didn't actually do that.

It's still up but they've (the owners) have relaxed abit, it's the new fisho's now that gives the regulars a stare now but for the most part everyone turns a blind eye as alot of people eventually fish that side.

Re: Security guards and fishing
You should make a sign saying “Fishing Allowed” and hang it on your yak then ask him if he can read. If they can make unofficial signage so can you.
But anytime somebody tries to move you from a publicly accessible space, ask for identification. That guy seemed to have no uniform, no security insignia on his boat and he didn’t show ID, so I’m pretty sure he has no legal right to remove anybody from anywhere. If he looks like a derro who just woke up in a park and stole a boat, treat him like one until he can prove otherwise.
If what he is doing was legal, I think they would have hired a proper security company to do that work. I’m guessing a real security firm told them no, we can’t do that, so they pay this idiot to do harass people for them.

I would definitely be following this up.
Even if the guy is right he still acted in a manor that was uncalled for given the situation and put you in danger of capsizing.

Re: Security guards and fishing
I have a real problem with the replies to this post.
Im in my later years and always follow the law-Be it right or wrong
Most of the replies are against the security guy in the boat -OK
If a sign sais -No fishing,5klm zone,40 klm road signs,no hunting or no tresspassing -do you say -Stick the sign ill do what I like.
It doesnt matter if the sign is correct or not -You follow the rules of the signs and law-
If its incorrect ,there is a process to go thru
The people whom said stick the sign and security guy -Only carrying out his job-are not fair dimkin
Ok Im now ready to hear the replies of the non conformists

Re: Security guards and fishing
Denis the difference between this sign and the others you have eluded to is the legal weight they carry. I can put up a sign in a park saying no beards, that doesn't mean that people with beards aren't allowed to go there and it certainly doesn't give me the right to confront anyone who has a beard and abuse them. This situation is very similar to what happened here. I was on crown land, fishing in a legal manner when approached by the security guard.
