Chicken Gut for Bream

Post by Blue » Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:02 pm

Many years ago this was a popular and effective bait for Bream and could be bought in a packet.
Heading for the Bemm soon for my annual trip and thought of giving it a try again but cannot find a source in Victoria although it is shown by Windybanks in NSW.
Anyone have any ideas? I am aware of marinated chicken breast etc but the gut was good, even if a bit messy and smelly.
Some of the other old timers may recall using it.
Hope someone can help.

Why don't you pay one of the big chicken processing plants a visit. They might just give you the guts free. I used to work for La Ionica chicken factory and they have a room where they gut the chickens and it smells God awful. I've never used chicken guts as bait but I have caught lots of breams on maggots, sounds strange but it works. Bit cleaner too n less smelly. Goodluck mate, let us know how you go

It's not worth the hassle. It was never a great bait for Bream, more of an old wives tale, I used a few times back in the day and it did catch the odd fish, so many better options for bait than smelly old chicken gut

Maybe a poultry farmer started this rumour to make some bucks rather than chuck out the guts ?
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:
