Hey all,
Popped down this morning and it was beautiful, water like glass.managed a few snook all around the 50cm mark, kept one for a feed and released the rest. Used a zman slim swim in bad shad, caught a 25cm pinky as well.

Yeah, there were tons of baitfish freaking out looks like a solid gar spot as well, might go back there with midget hooks and maggots

Nice, i tried there a few years ago with some mates. We were there from before dawn to probably 8am with not much to show for it. One of my mates did catch a couple of squid.

Do you think that area is worth targeting from the boat? I quite often power right past there on my way from Newport down to Ricketts.

Haven't fished there for a while. But i remember me and a mate caught big snapper there. Use the snook/pike bait, might get lucky.

How is snook for eating? Any good?

Not ideal to me.
It'll do more good as a bait than to eat. To me anyway. I know some people eat them, good to be smoked i heard.

I personally love them, just fillet and marinate in lemon juice for a while, add pepper then pan fry skin side down. Wouldn't rate it as highly as snapper or flatties but still delish

When it comes to relying on taste opinions of fish it varies quite a lot, I may ask if this or that fish tastes ok, but in the end I usually always cook it and decide for myself.
