Wading beaches for flathead?

Hi guys,

School holidays coming around, so I'm gonna have a heap load of spare time. I'm thinking for wading the beaches around Brighton/sandringham for some flatties using soft plastics, has anyone tried this? Also what gear should I be bringing for this?

I've had success wading about knee-deep at low tide around sandringham marina, casting towards the drop offs near the boats.
Motor oil slim swimz w/ 1/8 1/0 jighead worked well.

Pretty easy to spot in the image, it's where the shallow, sandy bottomed bit quickly changes into blue water. It's pretty easy to spot when you're there. I start on the right side of the pier and usually work the dropoff all the way up until i'm parallel with the big concrete wall you can see in the image, casting towards the boats and doing the hop-hop pause retrieve.

As long as it's decently calm and around low tide, go for it. Could be a bit nippy but it wouldn't bother me if you're only up to your shins in water.

The depth of the water depends on the tide but is usually ankle-shin deep at the tide change, would be knee-deep at most. Double ziplock-bagging your phone and wallet will probably suffice because if you slip it wont be submerged for long.

How deep do you reckon it is at high tide?

I don't know actually. I'd stick to low tide because it's usually the best time to target flathead and when I have my best sessions targeting them LB.
