Help! Garmin echomap 45cv setup and installation

So I just bought this Garmin echomap 45cv from BCF.
It has 4 cables. I know red and black are for power (to the battery). But what's with the blue and brown cables?

No manual in the box and I found the pdf version from the website. Says for NMEA 1083 compliant device.
What is this device? Whatever it is, it's not in the box.

I connected the black and red to a battery and turned it on, the map screen says no gps signal.

What am I missing?? Help!

I was sitting in my living room with the back sliding door open. Probably the cause?

The pdf manual is terrible. I'm gonna have to look for it.

Thanks. I'll try to turn it on outside.

The nmea wires are to connect to another device like an auto pilot or VHF radio, for position on the radio. You will not need them. You will definately need to be outside with a clear view of the sky for the gps to work

it is not a device, its an Older type electrical Network system for marine electronics to connect compatible devices to recognize and talk to each other.
the new version of that is called nema 2000, basically a plug and play network system for marine electronics.
it will not be in the box, its a totally seperate system altogethere which needs to be purchased and installed seperately.
think of it like a network for you PC that you connect to and access info from other pcs etc etc

as for why its not locking onto a GPS satellite, im not familiar with these units so i cant help there, sorry.

Tested it outside on my backyard (open area) and yeah the gps worked.

Thanks for all the helps fellas.
Now I'm just gonna tape the blue and maroon/pink cable with the other cables since they're not needed to be connected.
