Mozzie repellents - options and opinions?

Has anyone tried any non-spray alternatives for mozzie/fly repellent? Looking for some protection while out bush bashing (Ie. not stationary protection)

There are options like armbands, patches, high frequency noise makers that have varying reviews online but I've been always been skeptical of these things.

Anybody have any experience with non spray alternatives?

Thanks but looking if there is anything that creates more of a zone/area style defense - hence why interested if anyone has used the bands/patches/noise and if they are any good at creating an overall repellent zone around you or not.

Last year or two I was up on the goulburn during summer and had hundreds of mozzie bites all over me. There were biting thru my clothes and there were so many my hands were useless - swatted tonnes with each swipe but it would have been a 0.003% or less mortality rate for the mosquitos.

Smoke repels them, if you have a camp fire you will have a protected barrier like defence if that's what your after. Mosquitos hate smoke, I've tried the electronic frequency noise thing, that was absolute rubbish. The band did bugger all too when I was fishing in werribee river at night, I've also found that they can't bite you through your wader if your going to sleep in one. Best result was the bushmans 40% deet spray on, even that you'll get a couple bites here there.

Yeah I found bushman is the best though not 100% stopping them. Those others like bands etc, not working for me. As much as hate the sticky feeling of the spray etc they're the best.

I got absolutely shredded at Queenscliff last weekend; it was a plague only a flamethrower could remedy. 50 stings in barely 5 attempted minutes of fishing; had to leave them biting. Drove back home an hour and a half before realising I had a can of Aeroguard in the car...

Anything tropical strength, it smells a lot but works fine
