Re: Special fishing tools
Ziplock bags. They carry my bait and my pretied rigs in, and then my fish out. I used to screw around with buckets and glad wrap and all sorts of other stuff, but now i just ziplock my squid and chuck them in a shopping bag which then clips to the bottom of my backpack. Anything I catch too big gets strung through the gills with a spare bit of rope and carried that way.
Add to that a 1.5m ish long bit of rope I use to sling my rods over my shoulder or if there's cliffs involved accross my back, suddenly I have both hands free to climb or catch myself with if I happen to fall.
These two little tricks have made life SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier in walk in walk out situations.

Tangles in ropes in general , , , ,
My larger ropes I loop and tie off neatly BUT my thinner lighter ropes like Berley Pot rope I wind on a large Handline Spool. Saves tangles and easy retrieve of Berley Pots

Re: Special fishing tools
Never travel without a small pair of wire cutters. Was throwing lures at Doggy Mackerel and salmon once when a wind gust spun the lure back at me and a hook from a big trebble went straight through my hand between my thumb and index finger. Had nothing like the cutters I have now. It was stop fishing, they were really firing, and go get it removed or do it there and tear it back out. My mate talked me into the latter. Damn that hurt. Always carry the cutters.

Re: Special fishing tools
I had a trebble removed from my lower arm at Seymour Hospital, the Doctor who removed it wanted to keep the lure.

Re: Special fishing tools
Never been hooked, but i guess you don't set out to do it - must get wire cutters.
"Tool" i use is a 25x CD zip up case to put all my pre-tied leaders into. Ive got a cd case for each type of fishing - ive tried a bunch of things for pre-tied leaders and this has been the best solution for me. You can seperate/sort your leaders (weight, length, etc) into the different cd slips.

Re: Special fishing tools
Flattie spikes are nasty!
Has happened to me way too many times in the past.
Nowadays I always keep a thick towel or cloth handy on the boat and pick them up with that and haven’t had a problem
