For course fishing, I use groundbait (pom term for burley) a lot. As for the mixture, that depends on the day. I mix it to disperse where the fish are i.e. a light mix will disperse as it hits the water and a heavy mix will sink to the bottom. The pressure use in making the balls dictate how long it will last before breaking up. The 1 rule I have is that when using water to mix it up, only use water from where you are fishing. I will also use this for salt water fishing like garfish, mullet etc with great sucess.

When I am chasing carp seriously - I go with a couple of handfuls of corn kernels scattered into the water and a punctured can of creamed corn on a rope. All other freshwater fish I chase I don't tend to use burley, I tend to move spots too often looking for them, rather then let the burley draw them to me.
