This rod holder is designed to be used on a boat, a few charter boats have this type. It is designed to clamp onto the metal railing.

I thought it would also be good to use on piers with the metal railing. I need to get some longer bolts and use wing nuts to tighten it.

Obtained some bolts that were 65 mm long, fitted the rod holder to the railing. Only the top two bolts were able to be used. The bottom of the clamp is not long/wide enough.

The beauty with this style of rod holder is that you have three choices of the angle of the rod to the pier, either perpendicular to the pier, parallel to the pier or half way in-between.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

There is a tripod rod holder that is available. Except to import costs a packet in postage.

This style can be used on piers, on the beach and on the rocks.
