How do you organise your tackle?

Post by Kestrel » Mon Sep 26, 2022 8:25 pm

Hi guys and gals.
If you're like me, your collection of tackle is ever-growing!
I'm interested in learning about how you organise and store your tackle .... hooks, sinkers, swivels, beads, stoppers, floats, lures and tools (knives, line snippers, pliers etc).
  • Do you have tackle boxes dedicated to different species?
  • Do you have a 'warehouse' of tackle that you dip into before each trip
  • How do you keep your gear organised and easily found?

    Cheers

I have a box for each. One box full of various jig heads, one box for river trout lures, one for salt, one for natives. You get the idea... As normally I know what to target, I just pick and take the box(es) I need for the trip.
Same with my rods and reels, one pair for each application.
All in a storage pantry thing.

Thanks for your input Sebb.
Do you also have boxes for each species? Eg. A whiting kit, a bream kit?
Cheers

Yes, one box for bream, one for trout, one for bass, one for cod, one for squid.

For saltwater fish, all mixed in one box (no box for specific species).
So when I go saltwater fishing I grab my jig heads box, bunch of plastics, saltwater lure box, and bait box (mixed sized hooks, sinkers, swivels, etc).

Tackle trays for different species/species group & tackle bags.
Easy to chop and change as well as carry on boat.

Terribly.

I reckon im going to invest in a deep 3700 plano or equivalent and run 1 bait and lure box in the boat at all times so when I do dumb **** like last weekend leaving my tackle box at home it's not a complete disaster.

For the standard gummy/snapper/whiting/flatties etc you can easily fit it all in a single tackle tray, but hopefully with the extra depth I'll be able to fit in a few plastics/slugs and half a dozen squid jigs

Good way to not rust out bulk packs of hooks too cos you can just take 10-20 of each size.

I have a large tackle box in the boat with smaller individual ones for different species and use the small round plastic containers that roll film for cameras for storing hooks, keeps them water tight and a bit of tuna oil in it to prevent rust

Mostly got a bunch of bream\bass\trout lures.

They get organised by size, profile and diving depth

so
topwater one box
cranks split into two boxes , one deep, one shallow and mid
same with shads and minnows

Plastics are sorted into two wallets,

one is stuff that i use for pinkies\jewies

and other is more bream\ep
There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.
