Ice problem

Went for a flick early this morning in south Gippsland in the most perfect conditions except for the frost. The runners kept icing up particularly the smaller ones which fully iced up which made casting with a light jig head almost impossible. I had to clean out the ice every 5 minutes or so otherwise I could barely get any distance with the cast. Very frustrating, has anyone else had this happen and how can I get around it in the future?

My 1st thought was, sit in car with heater on until the weather warms up. 40 years ago fishing Bemm River in June we'd get icicles on the line, but, not the guides icing up. I wouldn't do it now, but, those mornings were beautiful.
Only thing I can think of is maybe tuna/fish oil.
I know you can put a bottle of bourbon in the freezer and it won't freeze, but, the small amount you would use, I don't know.
You can buy alcohol wipes.
Cheers Gra

It was certainly fresh this morning. The tuna oil might work, might give that a try next time. Cheers.

Oh wow, must be very cold.
I've fished frosty morning where the grass was crisped from the frost and icy lake edges, but never the rod.

Used to fly fish Lake Eucumbene a lot on freezing mornings = Iced up runners - East fix - Dip runners into the water you are fishing, it will be warmer then the ice / frost.

When i was much younger and the old timers would take us fishing some would tie rods to racks on top of car. They would wipe them down with wipes beforehand in winter for trips towards Orbost/Marlo to stop them from freezing..

Tuna oil stinks, i'd go the alcohol wipes (high %) first and see..
