Apollo Bay and the Great Ocean Road

Anyone know much about the fishing along the Great Ocean Road and out from Apollo Bay and care to share some knowledge?

I'm keen to try out some offshore bottom bashing down that way but it's a tricky part of the world to get any information about... the locals seem pretty cagey and very few reports come from that neck of the woods. Some of the spots are pretty obvious - the outer Henty reef sticks out like dogs balls on the chart but other than that it's hard to get a clear idea of where to focus.

Ideally targets would be flatties, gurnard/latchet, gummies and arrow squid.

Used to fish it alot 25 years ago. We used to do a few things, Cape Patton in 30m for the usual reef species and sharks. In close off Skenes creek anchoring just behind the breakers for whiting, Snotties, trevally and squid.Also trolling just behind the breakers for sambos. More recently people head around the corner to Blanket Bay. I cant give you any reports as I havent fished there but the usual reef species. I used to see alot of boats in there while heading out to Big reef for the tuna.If venturing to blanket bay always carry the bigger rods with you because there are lots of school tuna taken from this area

Just was going to pop down to Apollo's bay from Tuesday to Friday and was wondering what will be good to go after right now? I would have like to go after squid at the harbor but what would be the best species to go after and also what lures/jigs.

The only thing biting this time of year would be Salmon off the Breakwater or in the surf, there are a few bream in the river and trout upstream

Inside the harbour, fish from the jetty at the boat ramp, there is usually plenty of squid there

Harbour might still be in the shitter atm as they dredged it at the end of last year, all the seagrass and kelp is gone so most likely the squid eggs too.

Im actually staying at Marengo so is Marengo beach good for fishing or if wild Dog better atm for salmon? Also would spinning or bait be better here? Thanks for all the help.

I’ve seen plenty of people fishing from the beach there, whether it’s worth trying probably depends a bit on the wind though.

Marengo beach is very good for salmon, both on lures and bait, fish the last 2 hours of the high tide
