This idea might not suit your purposes, but you could buy a 100/105 series landcruiser with either the unleaded 6 cylinder or v8 for around $10,000. These will both tow 3500kg braked, then spend the other $10,000 on a small, comfortable, cheap to run car. Then you can have the best of both worlds.

Just re did the calculations. I believe 3000kg braked is enough. Does this open up the options a lot more?

You need work out what gvm limit is eg tow weight + payload eg accessories bullbar + number passengers There's article in which car

Landcruiser, Patrol would be your best bet.

This. But at 3t you've got pretty much every 12yo or newer 4wd wagon and dual cab ute to choose from.

second hand diesels need to have a good inspection prior. Specially injectors and DPF ..
I would like to update my tow vehicle to a diesel at some stage too. Im going to hate it but it's going to be a but better on the wallet if I tow regularly..

Thanks - looking to tow a glass boat up to 6.8M (Haven't yet chosen the boat). Will be enclosed. Engine 250 - 300hp
