Mustad hooks Stainless Steel long Snank No4 in 92608 pattern
Ive been trying no6 Gamma Hooks for Fisheriers-IMO they dont work as good as the Mustad
Oi dennis whats this secret squirrel stuff ?

"Ive been trying no6 Gamma Hooks for Fisheriers-IMO"

you an under cover agent for fisheries ?

whats the deal ? :rf:
No squirrels around St Leonards :o_0: They up at the RAAF and Navy bases

The Whiting hook i use all the time Mustad 92608 No4

Gamma whiting hooks supplied by fisheries

Snapper and Flathead hooks supplied by Fisheries

Fisheries book that I fill in every time I go out fishin-shows all data on the catch-All types of fish caught and released-1 page per day

A Research book specific to a species using either of the Gamma hooks Mainly Whiting,Snapper and Flathead
When the books are filled out I send them to Fisheries whom send me a new one
What fisheries do with them I have no idea but I use them as a history of GPS marks for the days outing
That's a good deal, your going fushin anyway so may as well get free hooks for a little paper work at the end of the day ! :tu:
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

I use whatever on the shelf of the store. Generally they're not that expensive and retail stores sell mostly similar brands, Mustad, Black Magic, Gamakatsu, etc. Good chance they are better than any if those cheap bulk unbranded from ebay, so it doesn't matter much for me.

Braid though, been using jbraidx8 nowadays. Used to be a Sunline fan.

The biggest change for me (after drags that work) was switching to high quality braid. I tried a few and settled on 12lb Tasline for almost everything. As long as you have an outfit that suitable for what you're fishing for, going from a 4 carrier 'cheap' braid to an 8 carrier quality braid is the biggest quality of life improvement for my kind of fishing. 12lb Tasline breaks at 20, and if you compare casting to 20lb fins or powerpro, it's like the difference between driving a corolla and a lambo. I couldn't believe how much easier fishing became when I made that change.

As overall advice, I think you need to find balance. There's no point buying a $600 squid rod and putting a Sienna on it, the same way there's no point running saltiga on a shimano eclipse.

Same deal for terminal tackle. I was rock fishing with a guy running a $1000+ setup for kings at Big B, using a spool of offbrand leader he got out of the bargain bin.

Match your tackle to the kind of fishing you're trying to do, then balance your rod reel line and terminals around what you can afford and making your fishing as comfortable and efficient as possible.

Gamakatsu hooks, Maxima mono, Shimano power pro braid & Black Magic leader (and I use circle hooks on my baitrunners...works a treat)
Exactly the same lol

All of a sudden it’s no longer coincidental that neither of us catch fish

I've switched from mono to PowerPro braid for mainline and from thick mono to Black Magic fluro leader. On the other hand, after losing a lot of hooks (rock fishing), and after one painful session where we went through an entire value pack of Gamakatsu Octopus Circles, I've switched completely cheaper generic circle hooks. They definitely don't last as long, but it makes tackling a new spot less annoying than before and lets me be more adventurous.

With you on the Mustad; my "If I could only have one hook" is the 92647S SS bait holder in 2 and 4 - this covers 80% of my fishing. The 2 has pulled me accidental 5kg snapper and 7kg mulloway no drama.

I do also like/use Gamakatsu (Circle, Octopus and Bait Holder), BM (KL1) and Owner (Mutu Circle, and Cutting Point hooks) as they lend themselves nicely to certain specimen. In particular, the Cutting Point is a dream for soft-lip specimen, like snotties and trevally in general.

Some of the Rovex mono lines are spectacular for a mix of suppleness/anti twist and abrasion resistance; my fav for < 15lb.

Braid- Tasline and wft

Hooks-Baitfidshing, Gama,
Hardbody and metal lures- Decoy and Shout!
Skirted lures- Pakula Dojo or Owner Jobu.

Had the odd failure with Gama's, but on the whole, they're very good.

Decoy jigging singles and Shout! Are bullet proof.

Pakula's and Owner Jobu again, very reliable. We lost a barrel to a snapped Shogun hook that was rigged by a very well known local tackle shop. That night, we derigged every skirt that didn't have either of the above two hooks, and rigged with one of the two.
