Yep thats the Ocean Onyx which is indefinitely moored after the Diamond Offshore company filed for bankruptcy.
Moored May 7th, 2020 and is expected to remain for up to three months.

Here is a great photo of the rig moored off St Leonards Pier taken by Glenn Ferguson of the Geelong Advertiser.

Be interesting to hear, see if they are going to put fishing restrictions around it, unless there are "standing" restrictions for fishing near those kinds of structures?

You'd think it'd be a fish-magnet :sr:

I think it's pretty funny to see, there have been plenty of double takes and 'Is that an oil rig?' being said on the pier the past few weeks.

I reckon just as you start getting close you'd have port security heading your way.

Uh can someone please summarize it for me?
So it's not an oil rig, some sorta dredging thing that looks like an oil rig, to dredge PPB? Dredging for what? And be there for at least 3 months for what?
I need coffee.

its a oil rig being tansported on a special type of heavy lift ship, so take a big container one and chop out the whole middle from top to about bottom and then flip it around so the bridge is at the front.

Thanks!
So they're parking it for 3 months in PPB? Not really drilling or anything?
Can be a fish magnet, being PPB is kind of 'strucure-less'.

I remember an episode of extreme fishing where Robson Green fished near oil rig somewhere offshore and the fishing was awesome being the only structure around.

nope no drilling or anything i would bet since it would need alot more then would have right now.

Dont be surprised if you go near it and you have the navy or someone go nuts at you, those things are guarded for threats and any boat that would approch is seen as a threat. robson green no bet went through some high level screening.
