Carp...

Post by Comanita » Mon Apr 10, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi all

I know, I know...why am I doing it? Short answer is because is one of the few fishes that is similar to my home country and not subject to regulations and stuff. Anyway I've read the old post (2010) on this forum on where to fish for carp in Melbourne and there were two main suggestions: Ringwood lake and Jells Park. I found from the Council that the fish in Ringwood Lakes is not suitable for human consumption (lol) and i spent a whole afternoon on Jell park not getting even one bite.

So i came here for a bit of help:
  • Where can i find carp in or around Melbourne - any ideas, suggestions advice is more than welcome
What would you fish for it with? I tried some canned corn from Coles and didn't seem to work
    .

    Thanks a lot in advance

I knew a guy who's passed away now, but he lived near the paper mill in Fairfield, he fished the river behind it and always seemed to bring home good size carp, he ate them so maybe the water quality is ok there ?

Try the Yarra River, anywhere upstream of Koonung Creek (Bulleen) - it's the most polluted creek in the whole Yarra catchment, and most pollution readings upstream of it generally are pretty good. Plenty of them to be caught downstream as well, but the water quality is more dubious (I keep hearing rumours of an emergency sewerage outflow around Burke Rd as well - no idea if it really exists or not though).

Coles corn kernels has worked very well for me in the Yarra to date - I find berleying around the line with more kernels increases my chances.

The Fairfield paper mill is in Melbourne, Fairfield is near Alphington but I'm not sure I don't fish that area, I think the yarra river flows behind it ?
