Fishing near Lakes Entrance

Post by fishingnotcatching » Wed Apr 09, 2025 10:18 pm

Hi all, new to the forum (and relatively new to fishing). I was down near lakes for a week and almost caught a salmon on the ninety-mile, which got off just before capture, but had me excited about how well they fight. I was getting sick of the bait being ground to a pulp and having to cast a mile, so I was wondering if there are places to go in the lakes for salmon. How about bullock island and kalimna jetty since they are near the entrance? Thanks for any info!

If you can be bothered, hike from the footbridge to the entrance itself, and fish from the rock wall into the channel. takes about an hour, less if you walk faster and don't bring much gear with you. Or just take a boat and park it at one of the jetties in front of the historic cottages. Caught ~30cm salmon regularly there on the 7 or so times I've been, occasionally 45-50cm.

Just go to lake bunga with a 9' rod rated for 50 odd gram lures and 5000 reel 15lb braid with 25lb leader twice the rod length with a FG knot .
And walk up to red bluff and back you should get 10 to 15 plus .
Makes for a good afternoon if you start at 15:00 .

@pastryfishing:I did that walk to the entrance with the intention to fish it but the wind picked up when I got there so I took a look at the fur seals on the rocks and then wandered back. I need to pay more attention to the forecast! Thanks for the advice:). Before I left I went kayaking up the Toorloo arm of Tyers and saw lots of fish splashing and jumping round the surface, which I think might have been estuary perch.

Thats right where I hooked the bugger, albeit on a pilchard. Might save up for some good gear like you listed.
