GT knot... Thoughts??

Post by slinga » Tue Jul 08, 2014 7:35 pm

Just after everyones thoughts on the GT knot.

Just tied my first one for my braid to mono knot and am a little unsure about it. The knot is tiny and only gets finished with 2 half hitches with no actual knot on the mono part. The strength seems ok without really testing it to above 8kg.

Its hard to tell in the pic, if its nice and tight the braid should go like a bit "clear" best way to describe it when it bites into the mono, and I personally trim the mono a bit closer.
You will get a lot of different opinions regarding half hitches I do two alternate ones over both lines then two over just the braid never had it come undone yet. Som people also dab some glue or melt the braid tag.

The thing with GT knot is that the knot has been interpreted in many different ways and many of the tutorials out there claiming to be GT knot are not really the original GT knot tested in the 2018 IGFA knot that proved to be the strongest . Even stronger than the FG knot.
Anyways i found the original GT knot and i think it's important that we acknowledge that there are tons of 'false' GT knots out there ..
