I’m heading up to tathra in a few days and was wondering what fish I could target this time of year and what bait or lures would be good
Cheers

Re: Tathra wharf baits and lures
You'll always find salmon, pinkies trevally, yakkas, squid and classic inshore species... there are always kingfish that cruise the area. Could get tailor I assume too.
Smaller paternoster rigs (or sabiki) directly under the pier is good for smaller species - use prawn, chicken, squid... all the standard baits.
Small plastics work well for the smaller stuff too.
Salmon - spinning metals and divers. Any 3-4" plastic will work too (probably better).
Kingfish - live bait anything you can get, put it under a float.
I dont think you'll get any pelagics this time of year, but who knows.
Flathead and jewies in the river will also be fishing well I reckon.

whatever you do, make sure your gear can lift it up onto the pier. its a big drop from the pier down to the water.

There's an absolutely heartbreaking tragedy that happened at Tathra wharf too...

Thanks I’ll definetly have to have a live bait out while fishing for other small things
Also, is there any specific tide that the kingies come in most commonly on?

Theres more to this one than what has been told, but it is definitely a tragedy that could have been avoided.fishingvic wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 12:48 pmThere's an absolutely heartbreaking tragedy that happened at Tathra wharf too...
Good luck fishing the wharf, as has already been said might not be the bigger stuff around this time of year but I have caught heaps of salmon, taior and big barracouta in september
