Someone might want to define the measuring rule.....
In case some might want to extend the fork tip of the fish rail abit longer than usual

Re: Fishing Victoria Species Comp 2014
There simply isn't a fresh water alternative that grows to similar lengths to include gummys, it would unfairly give the salt guys an edge.
measuring will be nose to tip of tail. including both the start and end of the tape measure. how can you extend it? the length is either there or its not.
the species list is final lol.

Re: Fishing Victoria Species Comp 2014
For this very reason, the payment deadline should be set, I think. If you want to be in it, you pay by the date when the comp starts (was it the 8th Jan?).ducky wrote:I put mulloway in it simply for the challenge. I don't expect everyone to enter one. But hell if you can find a legal sized mulloway then well done. I know there's 0 chance of me entering a cod which grow to similar sizes.
Carl, happy to start it right now. The end date is 5 months away. That gives people plenty of time to pay. You can only win if paid up. To be fair on everyone you can't stockpile photos and only enter towards the end if you think you're a chance to win. It's meant to be fun and honest.
For the sake of a few days finalizing entry costs etc it won't hurt to open it now.
Is everyone happy with a $5 entry fee? I think whilst its pretty low it will still give a decent prize by the time you get 20+ entered.
Does that sound fair...? :???:

Re: Fishing Victoria Species Comp 2014
Some people might take advantage of that and hold off paying till right near the end of the comp. Allowing that to happen means less entries into the comp because people will just hold off until the end to see if they actually catch a few fish and have an entry worth entering or not. It also makes it hard to organise a prize because we won't know what the prize pool is until the end, giving ducky not much time to organise anything.GTSHoon wrote:Why not pay by the time of your first catch towards it?????

I wouldn't have thought that Jan 8 would be a good idea for closing entries, it doesn't give people much of a chance to see it and enter. I'd say leave the entries open for a month or two. There might be people who haven't seen this thread yet, so it gives them more of an opportunity to get involved. It also let's new members get involved too. The word might get around and we might have more people joining the forum wanting to get involved.
Maybe to stop people from being deterred from entering during the registration period, any entries caught in that time should be kept secret. Ie, if some enters a 1.2m mulloway, an 80cm snapper, 40cm bream, and a 70cm carp within the registration period, other people might be deterred, thinking they can not compete with those sorts of entries and therefore won't join.
Personally I'll be joining regardless. I don't think I'll win, I find it hard enough to find time to fish as it is, but I want to contribute to this anyway. The more entries the bigger the prize pool for the winner.

Re: Fishing Victoria Species Comp 2014
This is a great idea for a comp. I will definitely be apart of it, even though i have almost no chance of winning, it will hopefully motivate me to get out more and give me some incentive to go fishing in that salty stuff.
Good work Ducky
