Fishies beach today

A quick report from today. Launched from Mornington at 8am and picked up 1 good size calamari ~25cm hood in the first cast, then off to Fishies beach for the high tide at 9ish. FIrst few minutes, rods buckled and landed some 30-35cm pinkies on whole silver whiting, also dropped a few. Slowed down a ...

Re: Kayak Reds

I fish off Mornington quite a lot too. Last few weeks seem to have slowed down a bit but I still got a few 30-40cm today. There's an app called Boating HD by Navionics with depth charts, use that to find the drop offs and you'll find the pinkies. I think I have the same fish finder as you (Hook2 4x...

Re: docklands

They have probably seen every brand of bread before too :rf: Haven't had much luck with them in the warmer months on lures, but when it gets colder, metal blades work really well. Sink to the bottom + long slow lifts. Keep moving around until you find one. You'll lift into a hookup, no skill require...

Blairgowrie 26/1

Hi all Went down to Blairgowrie pier over the long weekend. The pier was packed and I couldn't get a nice spot so I had to compromise and have some fun sight catching the reef fish under the pier on small bits of squid. Landed a few leatherjackets and wrasse and it was a treat watching them feed in ...

Re: Landbased Whiting ?

Off the beaches after dark is usually the go. I've also got them off most of the piers before where there is a bit of reef. Try the piers around port Melbourne, beaches around black rock to Mordialloc, Mornington beaches and the pier, Portsea pier. Best times are when the wind picks up. WPB also has...

Re: WHAT ARE THE WORST FISH TO EAT?

It's not a fish , , , , and a delicacy to so many BUT to me, Sea Urchins have the texture and taste of salty fish snot :o_0: I've tried them a zillion ways , , , , well a few ways, but I have to say that a squirt of Lemon Juice helps explain the face you pull when eating them. My Parents love them ...

Re: Where to catch whiting landbased in ppb

Fish after dark or early morning. They are there at Mornington, and all the other spots everyone else has given. Don't need to cast far.

Re: Crabs Galore

I thought I might just ask this here since it has few people tagged in it already. https://vfa.vic.gov.au/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide/catch-limits-and-closed-seasons/types-of-fish/crabs/crabs-all-species-except-european-shore-crabs Outside of restricted areas:1 litre or a combin...

Re: Cornacarpio's Cumulative Carp Culling Caper

I finally succeeded recently using a running sinker rig with 2 kernels of corn on a very small hook (size 10? a bit bigger than what I use for garfish). I think the secret might have been throwing in the leftover corn from the past few trips, but haven't got any more since. I normally cast out, clos...
