Re: Unknown Port Lincoln

Bit ambiguous, but I think meppstas reckoned the jackets were better eating than the shitties. Maybe so called because of the taste?

Re: Corona virus part 2

I have just gone back and read purple's original comment on the Truedogz post. He might have been a bit more diplomatic about it but I can't honestly interpret it as a slight on Truedogz integrity and I am genuinely surprised that he was so deeply offended by what was clearly an unintended personal...

Re: Corona Virus Part 3

Gee Jude, I think we all agree that everyone is entitled to an opinion but it counts for a lot more if its expressed in calm, "civil" language. I just don't reckon that terms like "Chairman Dan" and "Socialist/Communist wet dream" can do much to promote constructive discussion. I'm a bit surprised t...

Re: Corona Virus Part 3

I am following every post and hoping people just move on. I don't want to lock or delete yet again. In normal times a post like this would not last, but these aren't normal times and discussion of what is going on is helping some cope. It also provides information. Fair comment re-tyred. There have...

Re: Fishing tackle technology over the years.

A good question I reckon Troy. There is no real secret to catching fish. Its a matter of lobbing the right bait/lure into the right place at the right time of day/night at the right stage of the tide at the right time of the year. Getting those things consistently right is the most difficult thing t...

Re: Fishing tackle technology over the years.

It depends on what you're fishing for. Throw a double pilli patto rig on a handlinein 18m off Carrum and you'll eventually catch a fish. If you want to cast lures then there's minimum gear you'll need. That minimum gear changes as the fish you target and where you're targetting them change. In 6 ye...

Re: Fishing tackle technology over the years.

I still have family up there and get back reasonably often. Getting back to this thread - I am a bit confused. You seem to be suggesting that because of the wonderful difficult spots you now get into, only $500 gear will do the job. The question really is, would you still catch fish there with a $1...

Re: Cost effectiveness

I'm trying to put together a list of reels i've killed over the past 6 years. Understanding that my background as a kid was in trout fishing in streams like the acheron and the rubicon, my first spinning outfit was a mitchel spiderglass 6'6 and a little silver reel that is still operational but I d...

Re: Fishing tackle technology over the years.

I reckon the old Alvey sidecast still has a lot going for it. Line twist is not an issue if rigged with swivels as recommended. If you drop it in the sand, or have to lie it down to re-rig on the beach, you just rinse it off in the surf and keep fishing. Maintenance? What maintenance? I still fish w...

Re: Fishing tackle technology over the years.

As a happy Alvey user, I often wonder why they are no longer popular. Child's play to use, simple to maintain and very effective fish catchers. They were the "go-to" reel for NSW/Qld beach anglers for half a century - so why did Alvey go broke making them? I reckon they are a classic example of poor...
