Williamstown Breakwall 21/11/2020

Fished 7pm - 10:30pm on a high tide. Landed 2 KG-whiting on squid strips. When I arrived there was a gentleman with a bucket full of whiting who encouraged me to change my small rod over from targeting squid with a jig (first time) under a float to chasing the whiting with a running sinker rig - gre...

Maribyrnong Brimbank Park 21/12

Went for a short session at brimbank park yesterday afternoon from 3-5. Was trying for redfin as I am still yet to manage one there, but I ended up with a small EP that was released safely. I assume some of the stocked fish at canning st have been diffusing through the river and it is nice to see th...

Apollo Bay Pier 14/12, 15/12, 17/12

Hi all, Went for a trip to Apollo Bay last week and went fishing off the pier from about 8pm to midnight on the 14th and 15t and for a couple of hours in the late afternoon of the 17th. I managed to get a few tommy rough and a nice wrasse at the end of the pier. I think I got another wrasse but the ...

Re: Warmies 23/12 21:00-10:30

What do you reckon about that? Is it too deep or have you done it successfully before? As in fishing there with a float? During slack tide, low wind and high salinity (hasn't been raining), you can get bream, trevally and mullet. But often there's a bit of current or strong wind, hard to keep the f...

Re: Warmies 23/12 21:00-10:30

Cheers both. I’ve made up a sabiki rig with two hooks coincidentally. Will just have to try again. A second update is a few guys have turned up and said Francis st has been fishing well lately with catches of mulloway, flathead, pinkies and large-enough-to-be-cool banjos. Having a crack with some sq...

Under the Westgate 28/12/20

Hi all, Fished under the Westgate for the first time from about 5pm-10:30pm last night. Loved the spot and got a good variety of species including a couple of whiting, 2 pinkies, a port Jackson shark, and 2 mantis shrimp. All the fish were just under size and released. All caught on squid strips off...

Re: Making use of the nice weather, landbased Williamstown to City.

No worries mate. We fished the high tide in fact! Always a hit and miss area for me. Used to get huge mullet there but not in the last few years.

Maybe it was a mulloway?

Hi all, I've been trying for a mulloway for a couple of months now and feel like I may have gotten a step closer today. I was at a popular spot on the Yarra fishing with a dead mullet from a previous session. As the sun went down and the bottom of the tide came I had a quick run on the mullet. It ca...

Re: Maybe it was a mulloway?

Nah mate that’s the one thing I didn’t have. I often wonder if that increases gut hooking which I’m a bit adverse to given mulloway are a vulnerable species in the first place. I can see how it would work really well though and have certainly picked up my fair share of double shelled hooks that peop...

Re: Lost something massive this afternoon

Hey bilby, I want to vote mulloway too on the balance of probability. With that said, I have had a tackle shop owner tell me all sorts of big things - even bronzies - will head up that river. I do wonder where the salinity starts to taper off given that - maybe around yarra bend? Nice work on the p...
