Pedalled into a storm
Checked the forecast for this morning - "possible showers", light Easterlies. Awesome I thought. On the water 7:30am, looking for squid, got a little one, started drizzling. Then, a few minutes later all hell breaks loose - thunderstorm, rain, lightning. Fark I thought, better GTFO :o_0: "One last c...

Re: Pedalled into a storm
Good on you. If I was you, I'd sh*t myself just by looking at the storm coming in from the distance. Wouldn't even think about making one last cast. Lol. It happened really quickly - packed up the squid jigs and was about to head back. Wasn't too far from the launch spot either, but yeah - it was h...

Re: Any sambos off the surf yet?
Never targeted them, but now keen to have a go land-based - med-light gear, so realistically slugs up to 25g and placcies. Might ever try poppers.
BTW, the freakiest thing - pedalling over a bust up, it's like a rain from underneath - a school just came through under me

Paternoster to braid
Going to try land based bait fishing for pinkies / flatties. Connecting a Paternoster rig (~1.5m overall, two 3/0 KL hooks, 20lb fluro) to mainline braid (20lb), would you go direct - ie Albright knot or via swivel? I'm leaning towards the first option since that'd allow top part of the rig into gui...

Re: Paternoster to braid
My concern is with the line twist / roll, I guess it's a non-issue with braid?
A direct link also means one rig ready to go once on the spot, plus less points of failure.
@Sebb - so used to SP/lures, I'd have to develop a new casting technique to cater for the "overhang".

Re: Paternoster to braid
Got me thinking about a light surf rod, although not sure how it'd go lifting the catch (pier based)? Decisions, decisions... Anyone interested in a new Daiwa Beefstick Z 702MS to help me fund the new purchase? :o_0: I have 9ft rod 5-9kg rod. The biggest I caught on it was a 2.5kg snapper off rocks...

Re: Paternoster to braid
Thanks @Andrews,
Went to see how the Seabass sizes up to my Fin-Nor 40, BCF didn't have the 96ML - so ordered it online:

Re: Salmon on Plastics - 17 June 2023
Are Sambos preferring placcies to slugs atm? Going to try both, but I'm new to slugs - got a few Nomad Ridgebacks in 20g to trial. Plastic is all rounder. Can be used on the bottom, slow/fast retrieve, or mid or top. Good searching lure and see where they're feeding. But not covering as much area c...
