Re: Offshore at Lakes Entrance

Bait. Got another couple that worked very well filleted on the pinkies. Bit of an added thrill. 7 gill broad nose came for a stick beak then tootled off.

Re: Lakes entrance - land based fishing and crabbing suggestions

If you are contemplating hiring a boat or similar may I suggest you go on a local charter instead? For example, Ricky from Lakes Charter fishing WILL get you fish or if you prefer crabbing. No affiliation, he is a damn fine young bloke & not expensive for (basically) a guaranteed catch :)

Re: KGW Nungurner area.

Yep, lots there - just a matter of moving round a bit til you find them. We found small pilly or squid bits the best bait. Bagged out on school but only a couple of KG. Filleted and dropped in flour, hot pan and whiting McNuggets :) :)

Re: 8 Mile Reef - Lakes Entrance 16/09/20

Good post. If this wind drops off we will be out there tomorrow (Wed 18th). Usually stick to the 6 mile but my venture out further. I don't mind the Bernard the Gurnards as they are nice eating once you peel them. BTW, if you aren't aware, if you get stuck with a spike, hot water (as hot as you can ...

Lakes whiting.

Hey folks. The whiting are really firing at the moment even though there are a LOT of boats around. It appears that late afternoon sessions are more successful than daytime. Whilst the good old pipie is still a favourite, we have been doing well on mussel and green (raw) prawn. Surprisingly we haven...

Just a thought on identification

Hey folks (particularly locals), prompted by a recent report from a member who "met a forum member on the water and exchanged catches" etc perhaps a photo of your boat may assist in recognising others who may be out there at the time? I will start the ball rolling if anyone is interested. Blue/white...

last night on the whiting.

Good session last night. Headed around to Barrier at around 1700hrs. Initially very slow/end of tide. Got a couple of undersize whiting. Moved to behind Fraser Island area with little success after a number of moves around the "usual" spots. Back down to opposite the govt jetty with all the mullion ...

Latest outing

Hey folks, a couple of good days out recently. Got a few gumbos & pinkies & flatties. Sent back any pinkies 30cm or below (nice when you can upgrade). Flatties a bit on the smaller size. Interesting combination of fish - couple of big Sgt Bakers, leopard shark, Port Jackson, fiddly reefies etc but n...
