Re: Where / what will you fish after lockdown?

Keeping it local, St Leonards land based targeting the favorites of squid, garfish and whatever else is around.

I’ve been watching the salmon bust up from the beach and the gars schooling over the weed. Few pinkies around too.

Re: Best fish to eat?

Favourites have to be fresh calamari, king george whiting, flathead, garfish and leatherjackets.

Underated fish in my opinion are the yellowtal scad, slimey mackerel and Australian herring. Mackerel and herring are a strong tasting fish, but no less delicious when prepared right.

Re: 15 + 10

Another good fishing trip Denis.

The amount of boats out on the water out from Lenny's have been has been impressive.
There are a some nice sized gars around, plenty of tiny ones too. They went wild over some tuna oil soaked bread last night.

Re: Climate change effect?

Is there a hard copy book of this or something similar? I'm old school, I like reading hard copy books while commuting and before bed. Completely right about authors having little say regarding publishers charging to access texts. I didn't get any say when I published as a group, haha. I unfortunat...

Re: Fishing license extensions

Sucked that we were unable to fish though it gave Fisheries a chance to upgrade infrastructure, stock species and do some research they potentially couldn't do otherwise. The fish took a well deserved break too, we've got to treat those we care about, haha!

Yep thats the Ocean Onyx which is indefinitely moored after the Diamond Offshore company filed for bankruptcy. Moored May 7th, 2020 and is expected to remain for up to three months. Here is a great photo of the rig moored off St Leonards Pier taken by Glenn Ferguson of the Geelong Advertiser. 928ce7...

Re: St Leonard's Report 25/02/2020

Yesterday 28/5/2020 was pretty productive land-based, big school of king george moved into the shallows. Nothing huge, biggest being 35cm. Today was slower, no whiting but a few leather jackets.

Re: Where to catch whiting landbased in ppb

I completely agree that land based whiting can be hit or miss, like in a boat unless there is burley they really don't have a reason to hang around long. St Leonards pier is productive after an easterly wind and favoures a murky brown water, on those northerly winds when the water is the deep green ...
