Re: Kayak car topping solutions / advice needed

I agree with the side loader, I use this when trailering my kayak isn’t an option. Flipping the kayak upside down before lifting an end onto the side loader helps. When trying to load the kayak upright I found the bottom of the hull creates a rocking point when one end is up on the side loader, maki...

Re: Shark encounters while kayak fishing , had any ?

I fish about 4 times a week for heaps of different species Only Sharks seen or caught are 7 Gill,Gummy,Draught or Port Jackson. A load of rubbish from medias about Man Eating Sharks to frighten people and sell more papers or data The only Sharks I would be worried about are Car sharks or Some other...

Re: Not your ordinary Kayak questions - advice needed please

I agree with both Mazman and Sebbs advice. Personally I prefer the Scotty rod holders, I have found them to be very rigid and easy to adjust. I have had a ram style holder slip downward when getting a run from a large snapper, nearly pulling the rod out of the holder once the holder angled downward....

Re: 2023 Snapper Season

Fished Altona from the kayak last night with 7 others, no decent models caught just small pinkies. I Picked up a salmon and snotty Trev. There are some big schools of baitfish around. Not long now!

Re: Anything bitting around Williamstown and Queenscliff???

Fished Williamstown from 5am yesterday morning in 7m, just lots of small pinkies around. Didn’t hear or see any of the boats turn a reel either. I feel like it still might be a couple more weeks before the snapper come in. Keep an eye out for reports, won’t be long now.

Re: South Australia Maritime Museum

That is one of my favourite museums I’ve been to. The whaling and maritime disaster history in that museum is incredible, well worth a look.

Re: My first catch on the kayak

Well done. Good sizes too. :tu: How did you find it? Not too crazy on kayak? Much fun? Hey Sebb,Initially it took me a good 30 mins to get in my comfort zone , but after that i was feeling pretty safe & organised. Something i noticed which seems to be a bit of an issue is with the mirage drive when...

Re: Kayak Upgrades - Hobie Compass

A fairly cheap mod that I use very often is a PVC removable rod rack the fits in the moulded rod holders behind the seat. This has 6 holders, typically I’ll use it to store rods as well as my net and 360 light. Even if only taking a couple of rods it is handy having the net in a holder behind that i...

Re: 2023 Snapper Season

Well i feel like we must be getting closer, i cant work out if were the only ones not catching big ones at the minute. 4 pinkies around 35-40 today if i had to guess. This time i sounded up around a contour line but didn't bother looking for marks, just watched where the reef dropped onto sand at a...

Re: any kayak anchor recommendations?

Hi Tangles, this is a cut and paste of a previous post of mine regarding anchor trolleys, it might not suit everyone but has served me well. I use the full length Hobie anchor trolley, had it for 8 years and the ropes and fittings are still in good condition. Using an anchor trolley properly can mak...
