G'day folks

Howdy guys and gals. I'm a young fella in the midst of uni study who was taught the fundamentals of fishing as a kid by my old man and then dropped off as I reached adulthood despite some great times and some great fish. A month or so ago I spontaneously decided to go fishing with a few mates, and h...

Re: Corona virus part 2

I thought I'd chip in my two cents based upon conversations that I've had with two friends this week, both mid-level doctors specialising in cardiac and respiratory health at the Alfred Hospital. Both are currently working in the fever clinic, and fully expect to get the virus as an inevitability. B...

What should I spool a Saragosa 8k with to target land-based snapper and gummies?

Hey gang, Looking to get a bit more serious and target some heavier fish with a new Saragosa 8000. Paired with either a 12" or 9" Penn Prevail 2s, both 15+kg rods. I fish land-based all over Port Phillip Bay, plus some beach fishing between Anglesea and Point Lonsdale. I'm mostly catching pinkies / ...

Re: What should I spool a Saragosa 8k with to target land-based snapper and gummies?

Thanks Sebb for your reply, that's really helpful. It seems that although overkill, the 300m x 50lb braid option will give me good coverage for the different types of fishing that I may do. This is going to be my heaviest reel for a long time (I have a 5000 Ultegra ci4 with 30lb and a 4000 Stradic w...

Re: What should I spool a Saragosa 8k with to target land-based snapper and gummies?

I am yet to catch a PPB king myself, but my brother has got on to a few rats in the Corio Bay area while fishing for snapper and mulloway or throwing big metal slugs for salmon and tailor. Probably something to be said for being there at the right time of year, but it seems to be mostly luck if ther...

Re: What should I spool a Saragosa 8k with to target land-based snapper and gummies?

Thanks guys, that was really helpful. Gone with the 50lb Tasline on this one and moved to 40lb on the Ultegra 5500 (with 30lb on the 4000) so I have pretty good coverage now. 30lb and 50lb fluoro leader options so I think I'm set. Appreciate your help. Any other piers in PPB a chance for kings? This...

Fishing first-aid kit - what extra or different things would you bring specifically for fishing injuries?

I'm preparing to get into fishing-related hiking as it starts to warm up on the other side of winter, and am preparing a big rucksack to allow me to access a few spots that require a bit of a hike to get in. It seems wise to plan for first aid when walking a good distance from a car, which is itself...
