Merimbula fishing
Is it necessary to have a boat to be able to access good fishing locations at Merimbula? I'm thinking more in the lake. as the beach would be available, although I don't know how well that fishes

Re: Grubsssssssssss
I didn't think the Yarra was regarded as 'prime cod water'. I know they are there and are caught, but the river is fished for many other species starting with trout and blackfish all the way thru to carp. So to say having a wood grub on when fishing the Yarra is targeting cod is drawing a very dubio...

Grubsssssssssss
I've just been splitting firewood and have found some huge wood grubs. Got them packed away in the sawdust from their tunnels. So - what to do with them. I've heard they are really good bait [for what?], so - use them in the Yarra At Wonga Park or Lilydale lake??? Would you rig as for worms i.e. run...

Outfit for SP's in surf
Further to my Merimbula question about SP's, I have read that they can also be effective in the surf. My surf gear at present is basically set up for catching bigger fish ie heavy long rod, 18lb line. Good for gummy sharks but probably not for SP's in the surf. So what outfit should I look at to fli...

Re: Merimbula and plastics
Thanks everyone. It sounds like a good spot for a couple of weeks RnR with the rod. Looked at the SP's in the shop and there is a huge range. Naturally I will have to get one of each in all colours :D

Merimbula and plastics
Hi all. I've got a couple of weeks booked in at Merimbula in Oct and am looking at losing my soft plastics virginity up there. I am mostly a freshwater worm drowner in the Yarra, so I am getting away from my comfort zone. Is Merimbula a good place to start with SP's? Are there areas reachable withou...

Winter alternative
Still learning this caper. The Yarra now is high and dirty, and I still want to fish. Is it worthwhile fishing in the dirty water, or is it best to seek an alternative venue like the apparently fishless Lilydale Lake?

Re: Yarra drought broken
Caught them on the ordinary old earthworm. And I had been told that a running sinker rig was the go for the Yarra. I should also add that I must have left half a ton of lead in the Yarra over the past months - but snags = fishesssss

Yarra drought broken
I visited the Yarra at Wonga Park this morning and surprise surprise caught a couple of nice Maccas. It's been ages since I've caught a fish
I also did it all wrong - middle of the day, paternoster rig. Go figure. Thats fishing, innit

Re: Wonga Park
Re Sivan - the night vision glasses they now use for detection have taken away a lot of the fun
