Yeah a Vacuum sealer would be a pretty good investment, especially if you're gunna use those as bait.

You shouldn't have to use more than a 4 oz sinker there. I have fished in all kinds of conditions. If your rod is bending maybe you should use a heavier rod and like purple said don't use star sinkers in that area. I'm surprised you haven't lost many already. Star sinkers are great for bait fishing...
