gav, the ramp at old tanjil rd is the go.
there's plenty of water to cover on the lake. I caught a bass there in the middle of the afternoon on a cloudy day on a deep diver (4.5m) in about 5-6m of water, only one I caught.

Re: 'Cheap' rods and reels
$10-12 kmart Jarvis walker combo's aren't too bad.
Got one for my son, the rod is ok, the reel is bit ordinary but still works ok! can't ask for much more for $12.
I will put a better reel on it oneday, the rod is fine for ordinary use though.

Re: Cod/trout setup advice
look for a rod in the 6 or 6-10kg range for the cod. I have a shimano raider baitcast 6" 6-10kg (impoundmend barra model) which I think is nice. shimano curado 200 or abu revo4 are nice. abu black max would do well if you want something a bit cheaper. 1-3 or 2-4 kg rod would be the go for the trout....

Re: Mercury 75hp vs Suzuki 70hp fourstroke
hey simmo how many hours on your merc 60? and roughly how much is a new 75 merc looking like setting you back?
I have the same boat as you, but with a 75 2stk merc 450hrs, im happy with the performance.
