I like my 8ft Sephia egi rod. Good for landbased and still ok on kayak. I use long handle net though, one of those berkley rubber net. So scooping into the net isn't too hard. Last time i was fishing the waterfront we caught bugger all. Any tips? just flicking 2inch grubs around the yacht club. Me and my mate both saw a big shovelnose and a couple of snapper just cruising around though! Been hit and miss lately. Between now and winter, usually there's aussie salmon around.

Yeah, those under than $100 reels aren't that great, and can make learning so frustrating. Get a decent rod and reel and practise. Watch YouTube videos. Best in person with someone experienced.
