Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Hope you are enjoying the warmth in Cairns! Quick question - what depth are you in when you first hit the 6 mile? I checked out the relevant maps for the location.

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Well three trips later between gales and storms the past few weeks I have very little to report. Chased flatties off The Pines between 10 and 30 metres using squid and bluebait. First 2 trips resulted in just 2 keeper Flathead and a couple of big Gurnard each trip. Four hours this morning in great c...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Well there is fishing and there is catching! Four hours drifting off The Pines and further West this morning was definitely not in the catching category. I tried various depths between 10 and 25 metres but there was very little drift and only a few baby Flatties (apart from 2 keepers) to keep me com...

Re: GURNARD - WELL WORTH A TRY!!!

Sorry to hear that Ango - so far I have avoided Gurnard spikes but I handle them very carefully both alive and dead!

GURNARD - WELL WORTH A TRY!!!

At the cleaning tables at Lakes Entrance last Sunday and Monday I was one of a very few that was cleaning and filleting a few large Gurnard. Most of those cleaning fish said they did not want to get spiked and threw them back (and even cut them off) and had never eaten them. Sunday night I had Gurna...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Gave it another try this morning - about 2 - 3 km West of the entrance and managed 8 keeper Flatties (lots of very small ones) and 3 big Gurnard.

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Finally a morning where there was not too much wind or chop. Did not venture far from the entrance and drifted for about 3 hours starting in 10 m using squid. Fishing was pretty quiet but ended up with 3 each Flathead and Gurnard worth keeping. Did hook one monster of the deep and lost it not far be...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Headed out early today to chase Flathead and a few Gurnard - that failed miserably but the Gummies kept me busy from time to time. I kept the first 2 and then over the next few hours managed another 3 - all released. Sad to say Gummy No 4 was twice the size of the two I kept - a good feed of fillets...
