Lowrance Hook 2-4x Gps Sounder

Post by Blue » Thu Jan 10, 2019 5:03 pm

My old (very old) sounder has passed it,s useful life and looking to replace.
My needs are pretty straightforward and don,t need a lot of bells and whistles for fishing inshore along the coast of PPB.
The above unit looks good value @ $119, includes GPS capabilities and the tracker feature appeals.
Pretty well set on this one but would appreciate comments from any users.
Thanks in advance.

I've got one of these. Works great as a fishfinder but don't really need the gps

I’ve got one on my kayak, I set it up today actually. And I tested it out in kananook creek and it works really well, looking forward to using it in the bay. I would personally recommend it, but you may want to get other opinions.

They're set and forget I.e. they have bugger all adjustability which suits some people. The horizontal screen is a good bonus. But for a little more you have the Garmin striker 4, with full sonar adjustability and a quickdraw feature that creates its own maps using the data from the sonar as you are sounding around.
Short of the differences:
Lowrance: horizontal screen, set and forget, zero map capabilities, only trackplotter and waypoints, Very cheap for ultra budget conscious.
Garmin: vertical screen, sonar adjustability, can have user created mapped areas aswell as trackplotter and waypoints. About $150rrp more
